STONE CARVING CLASSES

I have been operating a School for Stone Carving for 22 years and have had great success teaching adults with no previous art background.

I teach the direct carving method, which means we do not work with any models or sketches. We work directly with the natural shapes of the stone and learn all about form, 3D design and the use of the chisels, files and the hammer. This focus enables my students to experience less anxiety and at the same time provides them an opportunity to connect with the material and the process.

After a student has completed their first piece, they can attempt to work from a photo or clay model and sometimes will choose to create a form that is more representational.

I teach all aspects of carving and polishing. For more advanced students I teach power tools on a private basis.

Classes are 3 hours/week for the 12-week session. A free trial lesson is encouraged to give one an opportunity to "try it out" before signing up.
